I spent the majority of my life as an undocumented immigrant.
My family brought me from Venezuela to the United States for life-saving medical treatment when I was only 11 months old. For almost three decades, I would play the role of “citizen” as we hid in plain sight together. Our fear of deportation was greater than our fear of God.
My life and travels across the U.S. stirred an insatiable curiosity of developing stories like this—narratives taken from my own life—I hope to shine a light on aspects of the modern immigrant experience that are rarely depicted on-screen in a truthful way. Our pain and rage…but also redemption and beauty. Most immigrants will never get a chance to follow their dreams the way I have. To direct music videos for multi-platinum artists like Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and frequent-collaborator Russ. To become an entrepreneur. To influence culture.
So many of us have been forced to live without a home in every sense of the word. I believe that the images I depict on screen will be a powerful opportunity to give back; to open doors for diverse creatives, to spark impactful dialogues through art, and—if we are lucky—to change the world for the better.
